Milan are reportedly considering a move for Cagliari goalkeeper Simone Scuffet after current back-up goalkeeper Marco Sportiello suffered a freak injury to his hand during the team’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Sportiello, who joined the Rossoneri from Atalanta last summer, suffered a serious cut to his hand in a freak accident at the team’s hotel, and is now expected to miss several months of action.

According to updates from Calciomercato.com, the 32-year-old is set to be sidelined for a minimum of two months.

As a result, he was forced to sit out of Milan’s pre-season friendly against Manchester City on Saturday, with 19-year-old Luca Torriani called in to replace him.

Current no.1 Mike Maignan is still on holiday after his involvement in France’s run to the semi-final at EURO 2024 and is expected to rejoin the group on August 2 after his teammates have returned from their stateside trip.

Milan talks with Cagliari for Scuffet

Temporarily without a senior goalkeeper, and possibly in need of a new understudy heading into the Serie A season, Milan are reportedly interested in former Udinese ‘keeper Scuffet.

In fact, the Rossoneri have already been in touch with Cagliari to discuss a possible transfer, and the player himself has already given his approval to the suggestion.

If Milan are to strike a deal with Cagliari, then the Isolani will likely turn to Udinese to discuss a transfer for Marco Silvestri.
