Paris Saint-Germain need a right-back behind Achraf Hakimi to spell him in moments and challenge him for the starting job. As the January transfer window opens in a few weeks, the capital club could look for depth behind the Moroccan.

In recent weeks, PSG have been linked to Trent Alexander-Arnold, but that doesn’t seem probable, considering the Liverpool standout will want to start and have a prominent role should he leave the Reds when his contract expires in 2025.

As a result, the Ligue 1 side will need to explore other options and pursue a player who might have to settle for a backup role or, at the very least, challenge for minutes as a starter.

Are PSG looking at Serie A for a right-back?

Calciomercato reports that Cagliari are working on renewing Gabriele Zappa’s contract, but the right-back is drawing interest from several clubs. Alongside AC Milan, the team he supports, and Roma, where Claudio Ranieri advocates for him, Zappa is also admired by Inter Milan, the club where he developed, and PSG abroad.

Zappa will become a free agent in June 2025, so if they cannot extend his contract the Serie A side will have to sell him in January to secure a some rather than receiving nothing in return.

The 24-year-old has played 16 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals.
