Milan Offered Chance to Offload Fringe Striker
After failing to offload Noah Okafor to RB Leipzig, Milan could make room in attack by selling the injury-prone Luka Jovic in the coming days. According to Sky Sport via Calciomercato, French powerhouse Monaco have expressed interest in the Serbian center-forward.
Okafor was a step away from penning a contract at Leipzig. However, his dubious fitness condition convinced the Bundesliga side to walk away, leaving Milan empty-handed. The Italian giants need to sell someone in attack to open one slot for Marcus Rashford.
Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently confirmed the club’s ambition to sign the wantaway Manchester United star. Barring unforeseen developments, the Rossoneri should sign Rashford or Kyle Walker by the end of the January transfer window.
With restrictions on signing non-EU players, Milan must decide whether to go after Rashford or Walker. Therefore, they could use funds from player sales to reinvest in the market. Okafor was the likeliest candidate to leave, but that’s no longer an option.
Jovic could fall victim to the club’s need for cash. He joined Milan as a free agent in the summer of 2023 and has since made 35 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals. But a recurring back injury has seen him amass just 78 minutes across three league games this season.
After undergoing surgery, Jovic could wave goodbye to Milan, with Monaco bidding to lure him to Ligue 1 on a cut-price deal. The 27-year-old turned down approaches from Turkey and Saudi Arabia last summer. But Monaco’s call could be too tempting to resist.
