Milan Mayor ‘optimistic’ but says San Siro sale must materialise before the summer
The stadium pursuit has taken yet another turn, following Paulo Scaroni’s comments earlier today, and Milan Mayor Beppe Sala has now backed up the AC Milan president’s version.
The last few months have been rather confusing as far as the stadium project goes. San Donato has been the priority for quite some time now, or at least up until Scaroni’s interview earlier today, during which he stated that the project is now ‘Plan B’.
It comes just a few weeks after the president reiterated Milan’s intention to build a stadium in San Donato, so it’s only right for the fans to be confused. Milan Mayor Beppe Sala also shared his thoughts on the matter with the press today, as cited by MilanNews.
2025, is it the year for the stadium?
“It must be, because it is clear that apart from the issue of the possible constraint that comes into play in October, if we cannot close the matter now, I don’t think we will be able to do it again.
“We have worked intensely, so I’m a little more optimistic than in recent months. In the new year, the first step will be in February/March when the council expects a confirmation of the financial plan for Milan and Inter.
“The next step after that will be in July to close the deal with the sale of the areas. If we don’t resolve these things before the summer holidays, we won’t resolve them during my term.
“This is why I’m pushing the relationships between our offices and the clubs at a good pace. The discussion is technical because if we have to present a project on a large area, it’s clear that the clubs need to have information on parking, mobility systems and constraints of the land.”
The extent of the constraint, which will come into effect when San Siro’s second ring turns 70 years old, is unknown for the time being as the Superintendency has expressed a willingness to compromise. In any case, what is clear is that a sale must take place before then.
