Milan Making Preparations for Top Midfield Signing
Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci could join Milan at the end of the season despite only recently putting pen to paper on a new contract. According to TMW, Sergio Conceicao’s men ‘are already laying the groundwork’ for the Italian star’s summer arrival.
Ricci signed a new deal in Turin earlier this week, committing his future to Paolo Vanoli’s side until 2028. However, it has all the makings of a ‘gentlemen’s agreement.’ Indeed, that should allow the club to earn up to €25-30 million from his inevitable departure.
Numerous European clubs have expressed interest in the 23-year-old, including Milan. Still, the Rossoneri would likely have to outfox Napoli and Manchester City in a prospective transfer tug-of-war. Therefore, they’re not wasting any time.
Contacts with Ricci’s agent are well underway as Milan bid to make the ex-Empoli starlet Sandro Tonali’s long-term successor at San Siro. Indeed, they’ve been in the market for a midfield leader since offloading the 24-year-old to Newcastle United in the summer of 2023.
Ricci ticks all the boxes and will be available at a reasonable price.
More importantly, Milan can offer the Italy international a regular starting berth. Meanwhile, Man City can guarantee him consistent first-team opportunities, even though Pep Guardiola has identified him as Rodri’s potential heir at the Etihad Stadium.
Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana have been Milan’s driving force in the midfield this season. But having an Italian star at the heart of the engine room remains the club’s ultimate goal.
