Milan boss Paulo Fonseca reveals why it is easier to beat Real Madrid than Monza

Serie A giants Milan picked up a massive win over Real Madrid in the Champions League yesterday, as they ran out rather comfortable 3-1 winners.

Milan had scored first through a Malick Thiaw header. Vinicius Jr put his penalty away to make it 1-1 but it didn’t end there at all. Morata himself got on the scoresheet against his former club and Tijjani Reijnders finished things off with the third, capping off a brilliant performance.

Fonseca, who speaks very well and he has shown that so far at Milan, has now given more accurate details into why it is easier to beat Real Madrid than to beat a side like Monza and Cagliari.

When asked about whether we saw ‘his’ Milan side yesterday, the Portuguese said: “I have to be honest: these games are totally different from the ones we have in Serie A. It’s the Milan that I want, but we can’t always be the same team in Serie A.

“Only those who are in Italy understand this: here there is no man-to-man team across the entire pitch and for this reason I have to be careful when making these comparisons. In Europe we can be this type of team, but often in Italy there is no possibility of playing this type of game”.

While many on social media are looking down on the comment, it is a very valid assessment of how the leagues work and that is what makes a side like Milan have a lot of space. It, once again, shows how well spoken Fonseca is and he communicates his ideas about the game very fluently in multiple languages.
