Mike McCarthy to interview for Bears head coach on Wednesday

Shortly after the news broke that head coach Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys would not come to terms on a new contract, thus freeing him to speak to other teams, McCarthy has wasted no time moving forward.

Last week, the Chicago Bears requested an interview with McCarthy while he was still under his exclusive negotiating window. But just less than 24 hours later after it ended, he's scheduled to meet with the Bears. According to David Moore of Dallas Morning News, McCarthy will interview with Chicago on Wednesday after his exclusive window with Dallas expires on Tuesday.

No longer restricted by his contract, McCarthy will meet for a chance to impress the Bears brass and return to the NFC North division where he coached the Green Bay Packers for 13 seasons. In his tenure with the Packers, McCarthy had a 125-77-2 record, including a 10-8 playoff record, and won a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

Joining the Cowboys in 2020, McCarthy put together a 49-35 record and was dismantled by injuries to the team this year which significantly ruined their season. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and pass rusher Micah Parsons were very vocal in their support to bring McCarthy back after a disappointing season this year.

Ultimately, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys decided to move on, and the Bears have now moved quickly to bring in a highly-respected coach who formerly coached their bitter rival.
