Midlands girls basketball recruit commits to another SEC school after late USC push
The state’s top senior high school basketball prospect made her college choice on Saturday.
Heathwood Hall senior guard Lauren Jacobs committed to Ole Miss. She made her announcement on social media.
Jacobs picked Ole Miss over South Carolina and Georgia. The national champion Gamecocks made a late push for her and offered her last month. She visited both Ole Miss and Georgia.
Other schools in her top 10 she released last month were Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Marquette, Mississippi State, Penn State and Virginia Tech.
ESPN HoopGurlz ranks Jacobs as No. 89 on its top 100 players for the Class of 2025.
As a junior, Jacobs was one of the top-scoring players in the state. She averaged 31.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 2.1 assists in helping the Highlanders to second-straight SCISA Class 4A championship. Jacobs has been on varsity since the eighth grade and is closing in on 2,000 points in her career (1,676).
Jacobs can sign her letter of intent in November.
