Stockport County have signed midfielder Lewis Fiorini from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee.

The Scotland Under-21 international has signed a three-year contract with the newly-promoted League One club. The deal includes the option of a further year.

Fiorini, 22, was at City from the age of six but did not make a first-team appearance for them.

He had loan spells at Dutch club NAC Breda, Lincoln City, Blackpool and Charlton Athletic, on all three occasions being signed by manager Michael Appleton.

Last season's spell in south London with the Addicks was affected by injury.

Fiorini had two years left on his City contract.

Stockport manager Dave Challinor told his club website: “Lewis is another player that we’ve had a long-standing interest in trying to bring in, so to finally have him is really pleasing.

"He had a frustrating season last year with some injuries but he’s a player with a really high ceiling and huge potential, who has trained with and learned from the best over his time at Manchester City.

“Technically he is fantastic, and he will undoubtedly be a huge addition to our squad.

"For a young player to have the experience he has in the Championship, League One, international football and in another country is rare, and we feel he can have a real impact over the next few years.”
