Who was Middle Georgia’s best high school baseball player this year? Vote now in our poll

We asked and you answered. Below are the baseball players nominated to be the top high school player in the Middle Georgia area.

The candidates were selected from nominations via school officials and our readers’ submissions. The Telegraph reviewed player statistics and accolades to settle on who would be up for selection.

From today through July 1, you can vote on who the top baseball star was this year in Bibb, Peach and Houston counties, with the winner announced after the poll closes.

Middle Georgia’s top nominated baseball players

Joshua Vinson, Rutland High School

Vinson scored 28 runs this season and hit 25 singles, 12 doubles and three home runs. He also had 31 RBIs and 35 stolen bases. Vinson batted .353 this year in his senior season, according to MaxPreps.

Vinson is ranked in the top 350 nationally and 22nd in Georgia for stolen bases. He is ranked in the top 60 in Georgia for runs and top 85 in Georgia for home runs.

Lewis Cheney, Northeast High School

Cheney had 22 stolen bases in 20 games played this year as a sophomore, according to MaxPreps. He had a .500 batting average this year, and a .625 on-base percentage. He also had 12 RBIs.

Cheney is ranked in the top 22 in Georgia for on-base percentage, 27 in Georgia for batting average, 46 in Georgia for strikeouts as a pitcher, and 148 in Georgia for slugging percentage.

Keon Johnson, First Presbyterian Day

Johnson had a .434 batting average, .569 on-base percentage, 34 RBIs, six home runs and a .907 fielding percentage as a sophomore this season, according to MaxPreps.

Johnson is ranked in the top 350 nationally and top 25 in Georgia for home runs, 477th nationally and 28th in Georgia for runs. He’s also 87th in Georgia for on-base percentage.

Jackson Peavy, Peach County High School

Peavy had a 0.83 ERA as a junior this year, according to MaxPreps. He recorded seven wins in 13 appearances and struck out 141 batters in 59 innings pitched.

Peavy is ranked in the top 20 nationally and first in Georgia for batters struck out, 19th in Georgia for ERA and 39th in Georgia for wins.

Carson Shaw, Perry High School

Shaw recorded a .312 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage this season as a senior, according to MaxPreps.

Shaw is ranked in the top four in 4A Area 2 for fielding percentage and slugging percentage and seventh in 4A Area 2 for on-base percentage and batting average.
