“It’s just so fun and I’ve seen it now,” Keaton said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. “I’m going to see it again after a couple of little tweaks in the editing room, and I confidently say this thing is great.”

The original Beetlejuice film was released in 1988, and almost 40 years later, Keaton rewatched it to get back into character for the sequel.

“I probably only really seen it from the beginning once or twice maybe,” he said. “So I hadn’t seen it for a long, long, long time so I did go back and look at it again.”

Keaton said that the film “is beautiful, physically. The other one was so fun and exciting visually, it’s all that but really beautiful and interestingly emotional here and there. I wasn’t ready for that. It’s great.”

The actor also mentioned that if viewers thought Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz was funny in the first installment, she would be doubly funny in the sequel.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is scheduled to open in theaters on September 6 of this year. The cast also includes Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, and Burn Gorman.
