Michael Bennett's felony case for injuring an elderly person continues to be delayed

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett is still dealing with a felony charge from an incident that took place in 2017. The case, which was supposed to be move forward Wednesday, has been reset, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The arraignment hearing has been delayed a number of times already.

Bennett was accused of injuring an elderly person during Super Bowl LI. Bennett was not involved in the game, which featured the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. He was attending the event to root for his brother, Martellus, who was a tight end for the Patriots. Michael Bennett allegedly shoved a paraplegic 66-year-old employee while trying to get onto the field to celebrate with his brother after the game.

The charge against Bennett didn’t come to light until March 2018. Bennett turned himself in and cooperated with police. Throughout the process, Bennett’s attorney has been adamant his client is innocent. The charge carries up to a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison in Houston, where the incident is alleged to have taken place.

Bennett’s arraignment was supposed to take place Wednesday, though Bennett’s appearance had already been waived. Even if the case moved forward, Bennett would have been allowed to practice with the Eagles. A new date for the case hasn’t been determined at this time.

In six games with the Eagles this season, Bennett has 13 tackles and two sacks.
