Miami Hurricanes line up visits with transfer portal targets. Where things stand

The doors to the NCAA’s transfer portal swung open at 12:01 a.m. Monday, and the Hurricanes officially lost more than a half dozen players and booked visits with a handful of others in the frenetic first 36 hours of college football free agency.

The scholarship Canes who officially entered the portal: defensive players Bobby and Robby Washington, quarterback Reese Poffenbarger, running backs Ajay Allen (who averaged 7.6 yards per rush on 24 carries last season) and Chris Johnson Jr., cornerback Robert Stafford (who played just 31 defensive snaps) and offensive linemen Antonio Tripp.

Among the portal players linked to the Hurricanes so far:

Kentucky defensive line transfer Keeshawn Silver, a former five-star recruit, will visit UM on Wednesday and Thursday, per Canesport.

Silver had a combined 44 tackles (including three for loss) and a sack for the Wildcats the past two years, after two seasons at North Carolina. UF, Southern California and Michigan are also in the mix.

At 6-4, 335 pounds, he’s a natural defensive tackle. Silver had 10 quarterback pressures this season.

Miami needs defensive tackles, with Simeon Barrow Jr., C.J. Clark and Marley Cook out of college eligibility and Akheem Mesidor potentially moving on to the NFL.

▪ FIU receiver Eric Rivers will visit Miami this weekend, per his NIL agent, David Ben-Zaken, via 247 Sports. He was fourth in the nation with 12 TD receptions this season and fifth with 1172 receiving yards.

Arizona cornerback transfer Emmanuel Karnley will visit UM’s campus on Friday after visiting Mississippi earlier in the week, per multiple reports.

He played only 369 defensive snaps this past season and permitted 22 receptions in 43 targets for 288 yards and four touchdowns and no interceptions, which equals a 103.6 passer rating in his coverage area.

He had 16 tackles in 2024 after redshirting in 2023.

Karnley, who played high school football in Walnut Creek, California, was rated by 247 Sports as a three-star prospect and the 98th-best cornerback in the 2023 class.

According to 247 Sports, UM also booked a visit with UCF transfer corner Chasen Johnson, a former three-star recruit from Sanford Seminole.

The 6-1 Johnson, who has a background in track, played 452 defensive snaps for UCF as a freshman this past season, started four of the final five games and allowed a bloated 101.3 passer rating in his coverage area.

Liberty guard/center Jordan White told Canesport.com and others that he will visit UM on Dec. 17 after visiting Michigan on Dec. 11. Colorado, South Carolina and Vanderbilt also are in the mix.

White started at center in 2023 and left guard in 2024. Pro Football Focus rated White the fourth-best guard in the country this season and third best as a run blocker. In pass protection, he allowed two sacks and just seven pressures in 340 pass-blocking snaps.

Veteran transfer portal players who have received offers from UM – according to the players themselves or media reports — include Miami of Ohio receiver Reginald Virgil (41 receptions, 816 yards this season), Arizona left guard Wendell Moe Jr., North Texas center Tyler Mercer, Charlotte right tackle Kendall Stanley, Auburn safety Kaleb Wooden and Liberty right tackle Xavior Gray, who plans to visit UM next week.

Miami also has expressed in many others, including Oklahoma State linebacker/safety Kendal Daniels (64 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks this season), Vanderbilt offensive lineman Gunnar Hansen, LSU receiver CJ Daniels (42 catches for 480 yards this season) and Georgia Tech receiver Eric Singleton, according to 247 Sports and others.
