Merzļikins & Matthews Caught In Hilarious Moment Resulting To Penalties

Last night, one of the most confusing but hilarious moments happened between Columbus Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzļikins and Toronto Maple Leafs' Auston Matthews.

Seven minutes into the first period, Merzļikins and Matthews both lost their sticks at the same time, which resulted in both players picking up the wrong stick.

Matthews picked up the goalie stick and took a few strides before realizing that he had the wrong stick. After he threw it on the ice, the refs blew the whistle and called a penalty.

At first, only Matthews was penalized for using an illegal stick. However, after the refs discussed the play, they eventually called penalties on both players.

It may have been one of the most confusing, but also one of the most hilarious moments of the season.
