Yahoo Sports 'Mental strength' behind winger's dazzling form
Ipswich Town Women's winger Sophie Peskett says being "mentally strong" has been key to her scintillating start to the season.
The Tractor Girls remain unbeaten in their first six games of the Southern Premier Division season, having conceded only twice.
Peskett, who has eight goals and eight assists, told BBC Radio Suffolk this season "has a special feel".
The Blues are away to Plymouth Argyle at 14:00 BST - a team which has lost six games in seven.
"Technically, I don't think it's anything I've done different," Peskett says.
"Mentally, I'm just really confident and I'm just really enjoying it.
"And I guess when you're happy, and enjoying life on and off the pitch, it will show in your performances."
In 2021, Peskett, then aged 18, made history when she became the first professional women's player to sign for Ipswich Town.
Later that season, she suffered a significant knee injury which ruled her out for a year.
Earlier this year, she was named the club's Women's Player of the Season having achieved 12 goals and 20 assists.
"I think I've proved to people that you can come off the back of a big injury and come back stronger," the 21-year-old says.
"I knew this season I was going to have a lot of expectation on me from myself, coaches and the fans as well.
"I just want to make a big impact, push on with this team and see where we get by the end of the year."
Joe Sheehan's side is aiming to be the third Ipswich Town team to win promotion in as many years.
The men's side were promoted to the Championship in 2022/23, and then to the Premier League last season.
Ipswich Town Women currently sit third in the division, with two games in hand over league leaders Hashtag United.
