Mendy, Tchouameni to start: Real Madrid predicted lineup against Brest

The stakes are high in the last round of League Phase matches in the UEFA Champions League as Real Madrid square off against French side Brest.

Vinícius Júnior is a notable absentee from the squad due to a suspension. This would mean Carlo Ancelotti most probably fielding a 4-4-2.

Here is how Real Madrid can lineup against Brest.

GK: Thibaut Courtois

Has failed to keep a single clean sheet in 5 starts this year, which is way below the Belgian’s standards. A clean sheet tonight would do a world of good for Real Madrid against a resilient Brest side.

Will return to the side after a 2-match break due to a hamstring injury. His task will be cut out as Brest possesses wingers that can cause trouble and make the Spaniard’s life difficult.

Would be shifting to his natural position for tonight’s match. Has been a standout performer in defence and will be eager to keep up his form.

CB: Antonio Rüdiger

The German put on a defensive masterclass against Real Valladolid and will have to replicate a similar performance tonight. Will be a battle to watch between him and Ludovic Ajorque with the striker capable of being dangerous in the air.

LB: Ferland Mendy

Has fallen out of favour in the side but has been Ancelotti’s first choice in Champions League at least. Brest has some pacy wingers and Mendy will be tasked with preventing them from wreaking havoc.

CM: Fede Valverde

No rest for the Uruguayan who has been a regular starter throughout the season. Would again have to cover for Vazquez at times but the Uruguayan has shown that he is capable of doing so.

CM: Aurelien Tchouaméni

Had a decent outing in the previous match as a centre back and has done well in the last couple of games. Needs to keep things simple and not overdo stuff in tonight’s match.

CM: Dani Ceballos

His purple patch continues to extend and has the world noticing his performances. Is doing the Toni Kroos role with his unique skills, having a 95% accurate passing percentage in La Liga and 98% in UCL.

CM: Jude Bellingham

May play as an attacking midfielder and shift down deeper when needed during the game. Been one of the best midfielders in Europe this season and will be eager to keep up his performances.

Was not as flashy in the last game but still managed to notch an assist and continued to impress after a quiet start to the season. In Vinicius’ absence, he will have significant responsibility on his shoulders.

Has hit the top of his confidence and is proving to be the dangerous attacker Real Madrid had signed him to be. 8 goals in the last 5 matches, including a hattrick in the previous fixture. After being the league’s 2nd highest goal scorer, he would hope to increase his UCL goal tally with the stat currently being 3 goals and 1 assist in 7 games.
