Memphis Tigers player ejected after punching Tulane opponent in groin

The Friday night AAC matchup between Memphis (4-2, 1-1 AAC) and Tulane (5-1, 2-0) got heated in the game's final quarter, as Tigers defensive lineman Andres Fox was ejected from the game at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.

Fox received a flagrant personal with less than 10 minutes to play in what was eventually a 31-21 win for Tulane. He was escorted from the field by a Tigers assistant coach as cameras showed his exact infraction against the visiting Green Wave. Fox, a redshirt senior defensive lineman, appeared to punch Tulane offensive lineman Josh Remetich in the groin.

According to ESPN rules analyst Matt Austin, Fox's punch provided grounds for an immediate disqualification. He gave the following assessment while Tulane trainers tended to Remetich on the field.

"Oh absolutely," Austin said on the telecast. "If he threw a punch or anything that you can deem was to injure the other player, that's by definition a flagrant personal foul and he should be ejected."

After the game, Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield addressed the incident. "I'm very, very, very disappointed in the individual that did it. He will be handled appropriately . . . There is no room for that in college football. There is no room for that in the Memphis program."
