Meet the All-South Mississippi Boys Basketball Team for the 2023-24 season

The 2023-24 high school basketball season on the Mississippi Coast was a year of growth. Top players took leaps forward and established themselves as stars by season’s end.

The All-South Mississippi team is led by one of the top players in the state on the Coast’s best team. The Pascagoula Panthers made a deep run through the 6A playoffs and are well represented for the effort. Dorian McMillian is the Sun Herald’s Player of the Year and Lorenzo Wright is the Coach of the Year following the team’s significant improvement from last season.

McMillian is joined in the Starting Five by some of the most lethal scorers in the state at every position. Here is the full All-South boy’s basketball team.

Sun Herald Player of the Year

Dorian McMillian, Pascagoula

McMillian took control of the Panthers’ attack and poured in 15.9 points per game on his way to earning Mr. 6A honors from the Mississippi Association of Coaches. The slashing wing was one of the best in the state at creating his own shot used it to propel the Panthers to 23 double-digit-point wins.

Coach of the Year

Lorenzo Wright, Pascagoula

Wright’s group jumped from 22 wins and a surprisingly early first round exit to 28 victories and a trip to the Big House in Jackson this year. The Panthers’ defense improved by a full 10 points per game and the average margin of victory stretched to 22 points.

Pascagoula leads the Coast in All-South selections with five players averaging north of six points per game.

Fan Choice Player of the Year

Tony Mora, St. Martin

The sharp-shooting guard ran away with the fan vote after knocking down 40 three-pointers this season. Mora averaged 12.6 points per game and is a Southeastern Baptist College signee. Mora earned 75 percent of the total polling with over 14,000 votes. He was tailed by Moss Point’s Quey’Sean Taylor, who had just 4,000 votes.

Sun Herald Starting Five

• Dorian McMillian, Pascagoula: McMillian will be making his college decision on April 6 and has a quartet of junior college offers to choose from. He also recently received an offer Jackson State.
  
  

• Matt Krass, St. Patrick: Krass was the Coast’s leading scorer, averaging 29 points per game and contributing with five assists, four rebounds and three steals a night.

• Quey’Sean Taylor, Moss Point: Taylor burst onto the scene this year, scoring 14 points and pulling in 8.2 rebounds a game. Was named a MAC All Star.

• Aujaylon Barron, Harrison Central: Barron led all point guards on the Coast in scoring with 16.3 points poured in per night, along with 2.5 assists and two steals.

• Maddox Noblitt, Ocean Springs: Noblitt had a big season, scoring at a 17-point clip and hauling in five rebounds per game. Was named a MAC All Star.

All-South Mississippi boy’s basketball team

• Reggie Connor, Biloxi: Connor led the Indians with 17 points per game. The senior is a Pearl River Community College signee.

• Dayshawn Magee, Biloxi: The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College football signee contributed with 11 points a game.

• Dillon Woods, Christian Collegiate: Woods scored 19.4 points per game, was named Region MVP and an MAIS All Star.
  
  

• Juan Santiago, D’Iberville: Santiago led the Warriors with 15.1 points per game with 5.4 assists added. The junior shot 40 percent from three.

• Jaylen Johnson, D’Iberville: Johnson contributed with 8.5 points per game and 3.2 steals as a sophomore.

• Amir Abdul-Rauf, Gulfport: Abdul-Rauf led the Admirals with 21 points scored per game with three assists and two rebounds.
  
  

• Shaun Murray, Harrison Central: Murray stuffed the stat sheet with 10.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. Was a MAC All Star.

• Alejandro Montalvo, Moss Point: Montalvo contributed to the Tigers with 8.1 points, two assists and two steals per game.

• Elijah Isom, Ocean Springs: Isom scored 12 points per game with three assists and three rebounds added.

• Kaleb Bradley, Ocean Springs: Bradley averaged 10 points and four rebounds per game.

• Kelan Rich, Pascagoula: Rich poured in 11.8 points per game with 3.5 assists and 2.2 rebounds and was a MAC All Star select.

• Markuese Grady, Pascagoula: Grady scored 7.8 points and hauled in 5.6 rebounds per game for the Panthers.

• Blake Nettles, Pascagoula: Nettles emerged at point guard and turned in 7.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists.

• Chris North-Heyward, Pascagoula: North-Heyward averaged six points, four rebounds and 2.3 assists.

• Lauren Jaynes, Pass Christian: Jaynes averaged 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.6 steals a game for the Pirates.
  
  

• Tylah Whitlock, St. Martin: Whitlock averaged 7.2 points and 7.4 rebounds a game for the Yellow Jackets.

• Ray Dennis, Stone: Dennis led the Tomcats with 12.9 points and 3.7 rebounds an outing.

• Jabori Moye, Stone: Moye filled up the box score with an average stat line of 11.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, five assists and 3.4 steals.

• Jakobey Johnson, Stone: Johnson was one of the Coast’s top rebounders, pulling in 8.4 per game. Also scored 8.7 points and blocked 2.9 shots a night.
