Meet The Newfoundland Regiment; The Newest QMJHL Team
With last month's sale of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan's and confirmed relocation of the team to St. John's, Newfoundland, there was much speculation on what the branding of the new team would be.
Would the team revive the branding of former teams like the QMJHL's Fog Devils, ECHL's Growlers or AHL's IceCaps? Would they keep the historic branding of the Titan, or would the team opt for something completely new?
We now have the official word, as the team has revealed its branding for the 2025/26 season. Out with the Titan and welcome the Newfoundland Regiment.
The team is named after the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, an infantry regiment established in 1795, but whose history dates back to earlier that century. The Newfoundland Regiment also happened to be a hockey team over a century ago -- whose jerseys could provide some inspiration for a potential throwback alternate.

Notably, the team chose to go for the provincial branding over city branding, which makes sense given the Regiment's history, both the team and the infantry arm.
Much like the Regiment itself, while the branding was formally announced today, keen fans were able to confirm the branding beforehand, as the website's domain was licensed on October 25th, 2024, the social media accounts were acquired as of January 12th and the official branding patents, and the official patents were secured January 20th.

Despite the shift in branding, it's unclear whether the team will keep the records of the Titan franchise or start anew in that regard as well.
