Arsenal are closing in on the signing of England u-20 goalkeeper Tommy Setford with a medical booked for the teenager.

The Gunners have agreed a deal to sign the highly-rated shot-stopper from Ajax with Setford set to become the club’s third summer signing, having already brought in fellow goalkeepers Lucas Nygaard and David Raya.

Arsenal will pay a fee in the region of €1m (£840,000) for Setford and a medical has been arranged for the shot-stopper, ahead of signing a long-term deal at the Emirates.

Ajax had been keen to retain the 18-year-old and offered Setford a new deal but have reluctantly accepted Arsenal’s offer for a player who has entered the final 12 months of his deal in Amsterdam.

Though born in the Netherlands, Setford has pledged his international allegiance to England and has represented the Young Lions at various age groups. His older brother, Charlie, is also a goalkeeper at Ajax.
