McDavid Vs. Celebrini Is The New McDavid Vs. Crosby

San Jose Sharks No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini was drafted in 2024. Edmonton Oilers No. 1 pick was drafted in 2015. Pittsburgh Penguins No. 1 pick Sidney Crosby was drafted in 2005. Tonight's matchup between Celebrini and McDavid will mark the next generation vs. the previous.

Celebrini has been nothing short of electric this season, with 11 goals and 11 assists in 23 games. Connor McDavid has shaken off his slow start and is up to 45 points (15 goals, 30 assists) in 29 games.

Matchups between Crosby and McDavid are always highly anticipated, and that hype will repeat itself for the Sharks' and Oilers' matchups. McDavid and Celebrini will play each other four times a year, and the Oilers and Sharks are in the same division.

Crosby v. McDavid has happened 14 times. The Oilers hold a record of 8-3-3 over the Penguins. Crosby has three goals in four assists in the games, while McDavid has nine goals and 18 assists.

Crosby does have a leg up on McDavid as the 2005 No. 1 pick has a highlight-reel overtime winner.

It is unclear if Celebrini will be matched up against McDavid this afternoon. Still, given Celebrini's track record for a 200-foot game, it is only a matter of time before they are matched against each other.

Celebrini will play with Tyler Toffoli and Nikolai Kovalenko, which is a very productive line.

Puck drop is at 1 p.m. PT and, by all accounts, should be one of the most entertaining games of the San Jose Sharks season.
