On Monday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced that Connor McDavid would be suspended three games for cross-checking Conor Garland. The incident occurred late in the third period of the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. As per the new release, McDavid will also forfeit $195,312.51, with the money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The video also explains that this was "not a routine motion to box out an opponent or use gain body position." The three-game suspension. Despite calls from fans, media members and former players that McDavid's actions were justified, the league saw the incident as dangerous, leading to the suspension. Saturday's game also included a suspension for Canucks defenceman Tyler Myers. Myers was also suspended for a cross-check to the head, with his target being Evan Bouchard. Myers will forfeit $46,875.00, with the money going to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Each player receiving three games means that both McDavid and Myers will miss Thursday's rematch at Rogers Place. This will be the final of three matchups this season between the Pacific Division rivals, with each picking up one win so far. Game time for the highly anticipated game is scheduled for 6:00 pm PT.
