McDavid And Others Star In New 'Gen Z' Promo

EDMONTON -- Hockey is back, baby.

The Edmonton Oilers play their first game tomorrow night. However, with three games on tap tonight, the NHL released a new promotional video to celebrate the occasion.

The clip features the Oilers captain, Connor McDavid, and other superstars around the league, including Connor Bedard, Jack Hughes, Nick Suzuki, Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, and Sidney Crosby.

The video begins with the question, "Is Gen Z the laziest generation?" It then proceeds with a series of highlights and clips from current NHLers discussing some conceptions of Gen Z.

This is some genius advertising on the league's part. To their credit, injecting humor is one of the best ways to create an inviting environment for new fans of the sport to join in on the fun.

The addition of 37-year-old veteran Crosby at the end is a nice touch.

Bedard kicks off his season tonight against the Utah Hockey Club in that organization's first regular season game. Everyone else except Hughes will play their first game on Wednesday night.

Hughes is the captain of the New Jersey Devils, who have already played their first two games of the season. They participated in the Global Series at the end of last week, where they played against the Buffalo Sabres. The Devils won both games.

Things are shaping up to be an exciting season as each team gears up for its debut.
