Bryan Mbeumo’s goalscoring exploits in January have earned him a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Month award.

The Brentford man scored four goals in five matches, taking his tally for the season to 14, netting in Sunday's victory over Crystal Palace and loss to Arsenal at Gtech Community Stadium.

The forward also contributed a goal and an assist in the Bees' 5-0 win over Southampton.

Vote for Mbeumo here by 12pm on Monday 3 February.

The Bees began the year with that narrow defeat to the Gunners on New Year's Day, in which Mbeumo opened the scoring, driving forward, cutting inside, and firing a shot low past David Raya at his near post.

The rout at St Mary's Stadium came three days later, when a penalty, followed by a ferocious strike into the roof of Aaron Ramsdale's net, was added to with an assist for team-mate Yoane Wissa.

Valiant performances against two of the best sides in the divison, Manchester City and Liverpool, came next at the Gtech, before the away win at Palace, where Mbeumo scored again from the spot... but only after an anxious wait, as VAR ruled he could re-take the effort he initially missed after encroachment in the penalty area.

After he scored from the spot, which saw him retain his 100 per cent record in the Premier League, he stated: “We are really happy; we know it is a hard place to play. The atmosphere was great until the end and the conditions were not good.

“Everyone fought until the end - sometimes you win a bit more ugly. We had to battle like warriors.”

Mbeumo is up against Phil Foden (Manchester City), Cody Gakpo (Liverpool), Dean Huijsen and Justin Kluivert (both Bournemouth), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), and Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace).
