Maybe Manchester City will have to bring a former player back to solve their most pressing need

Manchester City need to sign a midfielder this month. That’s been obvious ever since Rodri went down injured against Arsenal in September. Who they are targeting in the January transfer window remains a mystery. Several players have been named as potential City targets but no player has emerged as a primary target for Pep Guardiola’s side. One player who has been linked with a potential move to Manchester City is Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz. The more you look at it perhaps City should bring the Brazilian back to the club this month.

Daniel Feliciano and Dean Jones have reported for GIVEMESPORT that Manchester City are likely to explore a move to bring Douglas Luiz back to the club. Furthermore, their report suggests that a loan deal could see Luiz land at the Etihad. It is also included in the GIVEMESPORT report that Douglas Luiz is reportedly unhappy with his playing time at Juventus. Lastly, Jones and Feliciano report that it is unknown if Douglas Luiz is available to sign this month.

The more you look at it the more a Manchester City move for Douglas Luiz does make sense. Pep Guardiola’s side needs a number 6 who can step in straight away and contribute. Douglas Luiz could do just that. He’s Premier League-proven after starring for Aston Villa before moving to Juventus. He also has the attributes City desperately requires in midfield. The Brazilian midfielder has also previously spent time at the club before he moved to Aston Villa so he does have some knowledge of Pep Guardiola’s system. He would also add the quality and attributes City currently lack in midfield. Nico O’Reilly could be the midfield solution for the time being, but a City move for Douglas Luiz does make sense to offer the experience Pep Guardiola’s side needs in the heart of their midfield.

Douglas Luiz does tick the boxes that Manchester City need in midfield. Perhaps it’s a move City could explore to fill a hole in Pep Guardiola’s side. There is merit to the idea and the more you look at it the more it does just seem to make sense.
