Matt Eberflus explains what makes Bears rookie Rome Odunze so special

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams has garnered a ton of hype since he was drafted first overall by the Chicago Bears, and rightfully so. But his fellow top-10 draft pick, receiver Rome Odunze, has also been making waves.

For the first time, fans caught a glimpse of the Williams-Odunze connection in live game action, and it didn't disappoint. Williams made a sensational throw, rolling left, to Odunze down the left sideline for a 45-yard gain that left people in awe. And the pair nearly connected for their first touchdown on the following play, where Williams once again worked his magic and fired a laser to Odunze in the back corner of the end zone. But, unfortunately, Odunze was out of bounds.

Still, Odunze has been impressive this summer, and he looks like he can be a game changer in this offense for the foreseeable future. He isn't going to become a star overnight, but the work is being put in for him to reach new heights. Odunze's natural abilities are what are already making him look like a star.

Following Saturday's win, coach Matt Eberflus explained what makes Odunze so special.

"His speed. He's really fast," Eberflus said after the game. "He's got really good speed. He's got a couple of different gears. He's becoming a really good route runner. And he can track the deep ball. That's what he does, that's what he did in college, that's what he's doing here. So we're excited about him."

Eberflus credited Odunze's speed and his growing ability to run routes for his success. Eberflus believes what Odunze showed in college is what he is going to show in the NFL as he continues to develop. Odunze's explosive 45-yard reception was a prime example of what he can do to impact a game. As he gets more reps in games that count, his ability to be a true playmaker will come.
