Matt Duchene, Stars Look To Bounce Back in Road Matchup versus Last-Place Blackhawks

The Dallas Stars look to rebound after a tough 3-2 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild when they take on the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night. The matchup should favor Dallas as they've beat Chicago in 12 of their last 15 matchups.

The Blackhawks have had a season to forget with the league's worst record at 12-22-2 and rep the fourth-worst offence, averaging 2.56 goals per game. They are coming off a brutal 6-2 blowout loss to the Sabres Friday that marked their third straight loss.

Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard has done the best he can to keep his team in the game despite their dysfunctional offence. The 19-year-old superstar has nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points in 36 games this season and will need to be the main focus of the Dallas defence. He's been heating up lately with a pair of goals and three assists for five points in his last three games.

The Stars also have a couple forwards heating up like Jason Robertson, who started off the season slow but has since turned things on with a pair of goals and six assists for a point per game average in his last eight games. The hope is that the matchup versus one of the bottom teams in the league can present an opportunity for some struggling forwards to get on the board like Matt Duchene.

The 33-year-old veteran forward started off the season far better than anyone expected with 13 goals and a team-leading 17 assists for 30 points in 34 games. He's started to regress as of late with no points and a -9 rating over his last five games but can hopefully rebound in a big way versus the Blackhawks, who he has four goals and two assists for six points in his last six games against.

The matchup in between the pipes should be a good one with Dallas likely starting goaltender Jake Oettinger while Chicago has confirmed they will be starting Swedish netminder Arvid Soderblom, who has a solid 2.62 goals against average despite only winning five of his 13 starts this season.

It'll be a great game and if you want to check out the game at 7:30 CT on ESPN+ or Victory+ and you can also listen along on Sportsradio 96.7 and 1310 The Ticket. If you are in the Chicago area, tickets for Stars versus the Blackhawks are a premium with the lowest pair being sold for roughly $89USD.
