Mats Hummels weighs in on disastrous Roma debut: “The own goal was the icing on the cake.”

Roma defender Mats Hummels reflected on his unfortunate debut with the Giallorossi which resulted in an own goal in the 5-1 defeat to Fiorentina.

During his own podcast Alleine ist schwer, Hummels discussed the difficult experience at the Franchi stadium in Florence.

“I thought to myself, what’s the best way to start your career at such a big club?” An own goal after four minutes when the score is already 4-1 is pretty bad.”

“It’s so ironic that I can only take it with humor… This is kind of the icing on the cake of things that didn’t go well.”

“Things can only get better,” he added.
