Mats Hummels close to joining FC Bologna

Mats Hummels is close to joining Serie A outfit, FC Bologna as a free agent, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The former Borussia Dortmund central defender had reportedly agreed a one-year deal with the club over a week and a half ago.

It was reported by GGFN a few weeks ago that the Italian side were interested in signing the former German international.

The 35-year-old is now waiting on Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori (22) to finalise his deal with Arsenal, therefore allowing him to join as Bologna’s replacement defender.

Calafiori is close to joining the Premier League side with only the fine details of his contract bonuses to be agreed upon.

Hummels and Bologna are hoping to get the deals done as soon as possible so the German can meet up with his new teammates during their training camp.

In joining Bologna, Hummels will still be competing in the Champions League next season as the side finished 5th in Serie A and achieved the last spot available for European club’s biggest competition.
