Mathys Tel is “offered” to Man United by the forward’s agents
Manchester United have been “offered the chance” to sign Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel with representatives of the French starlet “working hard” to strike an exit from the Allianz Arena, according to TBR Football.
Tel, 19, is one of the most highly-rated attacking prospects in Europe, having joined Bayern from Ligue 1 side Rennes in a £25 million deal in July 2022 when he was just 17.
However, since arriving in Germany, Tel has seen his game-time limited by the presence of world-class strikers Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane, who replaced the Polish international a year after the 26-year-old left for Barcelona.
And while this is understandable for a youngster in Tel’s position, even with the talent the Frenchman possesses, the lack of first-team minutes have reportedly pushed the 19-year-old to breaking point.
Fabrizio Romano reveals Tel’s choice has been influenced by Vincent Kompany’s decision to keep him on the bench for the last three Bayern games. This has incensed the forward, who reportedly instructed his representatives to find a new club before the end of the January transfer window next week.
And the Red Devils, who hold a long-term admiration for Tel, are one club who has been “contacted”, though the report by TBR Football also reveals a number of clubs throughout Europe have been alerted to the 19-year-old’s availability.
The report states, “Now, sources close to the situation have provided TBR Football with an update on Mathys Tel – as Arsenal and Tottenham are contacted along with Manchester United.”
“However, sources add that contact has also been made with clubs in Germany and Italy – with Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and AC Milan invited to try and sign Tel.”
A report relayed by The Peoples Person this morning revealed United were considering “entering the race” for Tel in the event that a forward – either Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford – are sold.
The fact that representatives of Tel have actively sought out the Red Devils as a potential destination for the 19-year-old will encourage Old Trafford officials a deal can be struck ahead of their domestic and continental rivals.
Tel’s skillset, which has seen the French youngster dubbed the ‘next Thierry Henry’, is versatile enough to be able to play the LAM or CF roles in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.
The existing strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, are in dismal form for the Reds and the club would reportedly be open to either player’s departure if a suitable offer arrived.
Similarly, United are keen for Rashford to depart on loan, with Brazilian winger Antony having already swapped England for Spain to join Real Betis in a six-month loan deal. And a late move by Napoli or Chelsea cannot be ruled out for Garnacho with United reluctantly open to the 20-year-old’s departure if a suitable offer – worth in the region of £60 million – is tabled.
This makes the prospect of Tel a welcome addition for a team who endured big difficulties in front of goal this season. And United’s misfiring forwards offer the Frenchman a clear path towards the first-team at Old Trafford, as any attacker would back themselves to start ahead of Hojlund or Zirkzee at present.
Bild report Tel has “made it clear” he does not want to join Chelsea as the competition in the Blues’ forward line is too crowed. This gives the Red Devils a clear advantage of their Premier League rival in a pursuit of the 19-year-old.
United must not waste it as the options to upgrade the forward areas are limited heading into the final days of the winter window.
