Mason Greenwood named Ligue 1 Player of the Month
The French players’ union – UNFP – have announced that Marseille striker Mason Greenwood (23) has been named Ligue 1 Player of the Month for December. The Manchester United Academy graduate has won the award for the first time in his Marseille career. Greenwood was competing with Olympique Lyonnais attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki and Lille centre-forward Jonathan David for the December award. Greenwood scored twice last month, during Les Phocéens’ wins against Monaco (2-1) and Saint-Etienne (2-0).

Greenwood picked up where he left off as he made the difference during Marseille’s 2-1 away win over Rennes on Saturday. The England international restored parity before half-time and provided the assist for Adrien Rabiot’s goalwards header. Greenwood has gone level with David at the top of Ligue 1 goalscoring charts. But no Ligue 1 player has more goal contributions than Greenwood’s 14.
