Jan. 11 NFL draft declarations: Clemson star Mike Williams, Ohio State DB Marshon Lattimore make decisions

— After winning a national title Monday night, Clemson’s Mike Williams didn’t take long to make a decision about his future. The star wideout announced Wednesday he is forgoing his final season to go pro. The move was expected.

Williams went out with a bang, hauling in eight receptions for 94 yards and a score in Clemson’s thrilling win over Alabama. Williams, who finished the season with 98 catches for 1,361 yards and 11 touchdowns, had a clutch, leaping catch on the Tigers’ game-winning drive.

Williams’ season was remarkable given the serious neck injury that caused him to miss the 2015 season. Before injuring his neck on a touchdown grab in the 2015 opener, Williams combined for 77 catches, 1,346 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013 and 2014.

In his most recent mock draft, Yahoo Sports’ Eric Edholm has Williams being selected No. 5 overall by the Tennessee Titans.

— Another Clemson wideout, Artavis Scott, is also leaving school early. Like with Williams and others, Tigers coach Dabo Swinney indicated Scott would move on a few months ago before senior day.

Scott had 76 catches for 614 yards and six touchdowns this season. Overall for his career, he totaled 245 receptions for 2,480 yards and 19 scores.

— Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore announced Wednesday, as expected, that he will forgo his final two seasons of eligibility and declare for the 2017 NFL draft. Lattimore is the third Ohio State defensive back to declare for the upcoming draft, joining safety Malik Hooker and fellow cornerback Gareon Conley. Linebacker Raekwon McMillan is also leaving Ohio State for the league.

Lattimore was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2016 when he finished with 41 tackles and four interceptions. That interception total was second on the team behind Hooker’s Big Ten-leading seven picks. He also had nine pass breakups this season and returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown.

Lattimore, a native of Cleveland, landed at Ohio State in 2014 but dealt with hamstring injuries during his first two seasons on campus. He redshirted in 2014 and ended up playing in only seven games in 2015 before emerging as a star this year.

Edholm has Lattimore going No. 38 to the New York Jets in his most recent mock draft.

With Lattimore’s decision, a total of six Buckeyes have announced their decisions to leave school: Lattimore, Hooker, Conley, McMillan, H-back Curtis Samuel and wide receiver Noah Brown.

— In the Big 12, West Virginia is losing one of its top offensive players with receiver Shelton Gibson announcing his decision to leave school. Gibson has been a consistent big play threat for the Mountaineers, averaging 22.6 yards per reception over three seasons at WVU.

This year, he had 951 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 43 receptions. In 2015, Gibson caught 37 passes for 887 yards and nine touchdowns. As a kick returner, Gibson averaged 23.5 yards per try.
