Marseille soften stance on Bamo Meïté amid need to sell
According to a report by L’Équipe, Olympique de Marseille have softened their stance on selling Bamo Meïté (22) this summer. The club have been one of the few organisations in Ligue 1 that have been able to buck the league-wide trend that has urged caution in this transfer window.
The delay in the league agreeing to a broadcasting rights deal until mid-July had created financial insecurity in the French market. However, Marseille could not afford to wait and with an elite manager in Roberto De Zerbi at the helm there was a need to reshape a squad that was in desperate need of revitalisation.
There has been no shortage of incoming players with nine signings being made this summer and with the expected arrival of Elye Wahi (21) close to increasing that number to ten. However, there is an expectation that Marseille will now have to sell with Pau López Jordan Veretout, Chancel Mbemba, Samuel Gigot, and Azzedine Ounahi all on the market but none looking particularly close to leaving.
Marseille could be open to offers for Bamo Meïté
L’Équipe writes that Marseille had been reluctant to allow Meïté to leave (who only arrived from FC Lorient this summer after his loan agreement was made permanent) and had warded off Rennes with their high valuation. However, the French outlet writes that Marseille are now hopeful that a team in England could come in for the centre-back.
