Marseille end pursuit of Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah after finding an agreement for Lens’ Elye Wahi

Olympique de Marseille will drop out of the race to sign Arsenal centre-forward Eddie Nketiah (25) following the expected completion of Elye Wahi’s signing (21), according to a report from RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins. Les Phocéens have reportedly reached a total €30m agreement – including €5m worth of bonuses – with Ligue 1 rivals Racing Club de Lens for the transfer of the France U21 international. The Artois side will therefore recoup the better part of the €35m they paid Montpellier in the first place for Wahi last summer.

Roberto de Zerbi’s Marseille were in the market for a centre-forward following the exits of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Vitinha. Les Phocéens already secured the services of England international striker Mason Greenwood this summer. The former Manchester United youth product is expected to be the only English national at La Commanderie following Marseille’s decision to end their pursuit of Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah. Marseille will start their Ligue 1 season away at Best this Saturday at 5pm CET.
