Olympique de Marseille have cast a wide net in their search for a replacement for Pau López (29) but have so far struggled to secure a catch. López has an agreement to leave Marseille for Como 1907 but it rests on Les Phocéens securing a new goalkeeper.

According to a report by L’Équipe, Marseille looked at signing Wojciech Szczęsny (34) after the Polish international left Juventus at the end of his contract. His experience at the top level and the club’s ability to sign him on a free transfer likely would have been considered.

Wojciech Szczęsny doesn’t fit the profile at Marseille

However, ultimately the French outlet is reporting that Marseille have moved on from this target as he did not meet unanimous approval within the club hierarchy. They are instead narrowing their search and looking for a younger profile who can still develop and be shaped by the new coach Roberto De Zerbi.

This is likely also why Marseille are moving on from López despite the Spaniard providing an invaluable role as a leader within the club dressing room during his two-year stay in La Provence.
