Yahoo Sports Marriott faces lengthy lay-off after breaking leg
Wrexham's top-scorer Jack Marriott is out until 2025 and will have an operation after suffering a broken leg in training.
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson says Marriott has suffered a broken fibula, but hopes the 30-year old can return to play a part for the Welsh club this season.
A 1-0 win at Rotherham means Wrexham remain second in League One as they chase a third successive promotion.
Parkinson says he expects Marriott to be out for at least four months.
"It was such a low day for us all at the training ground on Thursday," Parkinson told BBC Sport Wales.
"Jack struck the ball at goal with no-one near him but his foot went from underneath him and he's broken his fibula.
"I'm thinking four months minimum. It's a serious injury. It's a difficult moment for him to get such a serious injury in such an innocuous circumstances.
"He had started the season really well but hopefully he can come back and contribute before the season finishes."
Parkinson said Wrexham would not look to sign a replacement given the form of Ollie Palmer, who this week signed a new Wrexham contract, and the return of Paul Mullin.
Mullin's strike just 16 seconds into only his second league start clinched victory over Rotherham that Parkinson dedicated to Marriott.
"That was for Jack really, it's a tough moment for him," Parkinson added.
"Through adversity you have to pull together and I am proud of the way the staff and players pulled together on Friday and then performed against Rotherham."
