Mark Streit's memorable Tampa Bay Lightning career gets video tribute

Two days after a trade deadline that saw him dealt twice, Mark Streit will suit up for the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night to play against the Tampa Bay Lightning, a franchise he was a part of for about an hour.

Streit’s brief tenure with the Lightning was quickly ended when he was flipped to the Penguins after earlier being dealt by the Philadelphia Flyers. By sheer comedy’s sake, his very first game with his new team is against the one where he had his shortest tenure.

“It’s funny, isn’t it?” Streit said via Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times. “A coincidence I guess. It was a crazy afternoon. I never really went through it in my career, so it was a new experience.”

While we have some time, let’s take a look back at Streit’s memorable career with the Lightning, which was a tad shorter than Sam Gagner’s stay back in 2014 and Jose Calderon’s with the Golden State Warriors this week.

• There were those few minutes where he was likely trying to remember if he had previously played with anyone on the Lightning.

• Of course, there was probably that moment he pulled up Tampa’s schedule to see exactly where he’d be flying to meet up his new team.

• Then there was that text (this one really happened) to former Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier telling him, “Hey Vinny, I may be coming down (to Tampa).”

After his agent tipped him off that another deal could be in the works, Streit’s Lightning career ended around 3 p.m. ET when the move to Pittsburgh was official. He now has the honor of being paid by three different teams at once with the Lightning picking up 50 percent of his salary, the Penguins taking on 45.3 percent and the Flyers shelling out a grand total of 4.7 percent.

Streit and the Penguins don’t visit Tampa again this season, so barring a long-shot meeting in the playoffs, the Amalie Arena video tribute will have to wait. Until then, here’s one created by Nick Vucic:
