Mark Buehrle falls short, Blue Jays fans divided

The Toronto Blue Jays finished up the regular season with a 12-3 thumping by the Tampa Bay Rays.

The big story of the game was that manager John Gibbons started pitcher Mark Buehrle in a controversial move that was labelled "classy" by some and "poor judgement" by others.

With the start, Buehrle had the opportunity to hit a milestone of being the fifth major leaguer to pitch 200 innings or more in 15 consecutive seasons. He needed two innings, but only made it 2/3 of the way through the first before he was removed due to two errors that led to eight unearned runs and five hits.

We wanted to know if you thought it was more important for Blue Jays management to give Buehrle a chance to hit his milestone, or if gunning for the home field advantage should have taken precedence.

As of publishing, poll results were close with 43% lauding the decision, and 57% not. We looked to Twitter to gauge the reaction, keeping in mind hindsight is 20/20.

Classy Move Gibbons

What was Gibbons thinking?

A Career to be proud of

It's unclear whether Mark Buehrle will play in the post season, although he will not be included on the roster. As well, nobody knows but Buehrle if he will be retiring in the off-season, which has been rumoured.

What is clear is that his team and his fans are behind him and proud of his accomplishments, 200 innings or not.
