Marcus Stroman refutes report of Blue Jays considering extension

Toronto Blue Jays ace Marcus Stroman is keeping his current club on their toes as the July 31 trade deadline marches closer.

It was reported that the Blue Jays might not trade Stroman - which is widely expected at this juncture - and instead, have told potential suitors that they are considering offering him an extension.

Stroman flatly rejected this notion Friday.

Stroman’s contract expires at the end of the 2019 season. Although the Blue Jays have struggled badly throughout the year, he’s been one of the team’s lone bright spots and was named as Toronto’s sole all-star earlier this summer.

The report may have been an act of gamesmanship by the Blue Jays to inflate his trade value, in hopes of getting one team to bite, but Stroman apparently refuses to play along.

At this point, Stroman seems like he’d be more valuable to a genuine contender as opposed to a Blue Jays team that appears to be in the early stages of a rebuild.

For now, we’ll have to wait for any further action but Stroman’s as likely as anyone to keep us all posted on the proceedings, while the New York Yankees and other clubs mull over potential offers for the 28-year-old.
