Tuesday night’s start was more of the same for Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman in 2019.

The ace threw seven strong innings, allowing three runs and four hits, but was still saddled with the loss after his team could only muster a single run of support.

After the game, Stroman was asked about his name continuing to pop up in rumours as the trade deadline approaches at the end of July.

In the true fashion that we’ve come to expect by now, Stroman was very candid in his reply.

"I wake up to the same rumours y'all see, on the same social media platforms,” Stroman shared to the media. “I'm doing my best part to stay in the moment and be with the team.

“I'm starting to really understand the business of baseball and the business of sport. It's kind of out of my control. They've been throwing my name around in trade talks all the time, doesn't seem like I'm going to be signed here to a long-term deal."

"It's just something you have to come to terms with,” he continued. “I love this team. I love Toronto. I love everything about the country and I'm going to go out each and every start and compete, compete, compete."

So, does he seem himself as a member of the Blue Jays by the time August rolls around? The outlook is doubtful.

"Seems like everybody’s saying I’m not going to be. I don’t know,” Stroman admitted. “I’m doing everything in my power to keep that out of my head."

The trade rumours surrounding Stroman have been a constant throughout the first half of the season, starting all the way back in spring and popping up about once a month as hot stove season approaches.

The 28-year-old is without a doubt the most valuable asset that the Blue Jays could reasonably move. He is in the middle of a bounce-back season in 2019, with a 3.23 ERA through 16 starts and another full season of team control available, meaning any team that acquires him would have him for two playoff runs at least.

The trade deadline is July 31st, and the Blue Jays fell to 21 games under .500 with Tuesday night’s loss.
