Maple Leafs sign Wayne Simmonds to 1-year deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Wayne Simmonds to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million US.

Simmonds, a Scarborough, Ont., native confirmed the deal on Sportsnet. He joins his hometown Maple Leafs after being acquired by the Buffalo Sabres ahead of the trade deadline last season from the New Jersey Devils.

The 32-year-old's new contract includes a reported full no-move clause.

Simmonds was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in 2007. In 909 career games with the Kings, Flyers, Predators, Devils and Sabres he has scored 499 points (251 goals, 248 assists).
