Maple Leafs reveal top 100 players of all time, including Phil Kessel
The Toronto Maple Leafs’ centennial celebration rolls on in earnest with the top 100 Maple Leafs of All-Time ever.
The list was revealed on Friday at a ceremony at the Real Sports. It was voted on by fans, despite the curious absence of John Scott on the list. It finalized by a committee of experts, which we’re guessing means the Leafs’ front office.

As you can see, Dave Keon was No. 1 overall on the list, as expected. As he was on this Greatest Leafs list as well. Seeing Mats Sundin crack the Top 5 is a mild surprise, one imagines.
Despite the fan influence, Doug Gilmour and Wendel Clark both finished outside the top 10.
Tomas Kaberle? Too high. Ed Belfour? Way too low.
There are three active players on the list: Phil Kessel at No. 48, now playing with the Pittsburgh Penguins; Dion Phaneuf at No. 88, now playing for the Ottawa Senators; and James van Riemsdyk at No. 100, now currently playing for the Leafs and probably thrilled that they didn’t go with the obvious choice for No. 100, Auston Matthews.
We’re sure the methodology of this list was impeccable and it was treated with solemn importance, and yet we can’t help but wonder what world we’re living in where Alexander Mogilny is 30 spots behind Gary Leeman on a greatest of anything list.
But hey, at least Russ Courtnall knows he’s not as great as Tie Domi, and at least this list remains yet another constant reminder that Dave Andreychuk gets no respect ever for anything.
