How many athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympics have Texas connections?

The state of Texas will be well represented at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which began on Wednesday when the U.S. men’s soccer team faced France and officially begin with the Opening Ceremony on Friday.

Sprinter Dallas-Fort Worth native Sha’Carri Richardson is one of several dozen Texans competing. She will attempt to become the first U.S. woman to win a gold medal n the 100-meter dash since Marion Jones claimed gold in 2000. She was later stripped of the medal for using performance-enhancing supplements.

Who are the other notable competitors from the Lone Star State?

Basketball

The women’s 3X3 team begins competition at 10:30 a.m. on July 30th and the standard team begins at 2:00 p.m. on July 29.

The men’s national team begins play at 10:15 on July 28.

Hailey Van Lith:, a TCU player, is a meember of U.S. 3x3 women’s team.

Brittany Griner, a former Baylor standout and a Houston native, is a member of the U.S. women’s team.

Kevin Durant, who played collegiality at Texas, is a member of the U.S. men’s team.

Boxing

The women’s lightweight competition begins at 8:30 a.m. on July 27. Men’s super heavyweight competition is at 4 a.m. on July 29 and flyweight at 4 a.m. on July 28.

Jennifer Lozano, from Laredo, fights in the lightweight class.

Joshua Edwards, from Houston, fights in the super heavyweight class.

Roscoe Hill, from Springs, fights in the flyweight class.

Breaking

Breaking, or break dancing, competition is on at 9 a.m. on Aug. 10.

Cycling will be on starting at 10 a.m. on Aug. 5.

Grant Koontz is a track cyclist from Houston.

Diving

The 3-meter diving will start on July 27 at 4 a.m.

Alison Gibson, from Austin, will compete in the 3-meter springboard.

Field Hockey

Women’s field hockey will start on July 27 at 12:45 a.m.

Kelsey Bing is a field hockey player from Houston.

Golf

The men’s golf tournament will be on Aug. 1 at 2 a.m.

Scottie Scheffler went to the University of Texas and currently lives in Dallas.

Gymnastics

Women’s gymnastics will begin on Jly 28 at 2:30 a.m.

Simone Biles is from Spring and will compete in the all-around, floor exercise and balance beam competitions.

Hezly Rivera lives in Plano and will compete in artistic gymnastics.

Asher Hong was born in Plano and will compete in artistic gymnastics.

Rowing

Quadruple sculls will be held on July 27 at 2 a.m.; four’s rowing is on July 28 at 2 a.m.

Teal Cohen is from Dallas and will compete in quadruple sculling.

Kaitlin Knifton is from Austin and attended the University of Texas and will be compete in four’s rowing.

Rugby

The men’s rugby 7’s begins on July 24 at 10:30 a.m.

Orrin Bizer is from Woodlands and Kevon Williams from Houston are both members of the men’s rugby team.

Shooting

Women’s trap shooting will be held on at July 30 at 2 a.m.; Women’s skeet shooting will be held on Aug. 3 at 2 a.m and men’s skeet shooting will be held on Aug. 2 at 2 a.m.; Men’s rapid-fire pistol shooting will be held on Aug. 4 at 2 a.m.

The U.S. mens team opens play on July 24 at 2 p.m.; the women’s team opens play on July 25 at 2 p.m.

Jaedyn Shaw is from Frisco and plays forward.

Tanner Tessmann is a midfielder who played professionally for FC Dallas.

Walker Zimmerman is a center-back who played professionally for FC Dallas.

Climbing

Speed sports climbing will be held on Aug. 6 at 6 a.m.

Sam Watson is a speed sports climber from Southlake.

The women’s 200-meter freestyle will be held July 28 4 a.m.; the women’s 4X100 freestyle is on July 27 at 4 a.m. ; the women’s 50-meter freestyle on Aug. 3 at 4 a.m.; the men’s 200-meter individual medley will be on Aug. 1 at 4 a.m.

The men’s 100-meter breaststroke will begin on July 27 at 4 a.m.; the men’s 400-meter medley will be held on July 28 at 4 a.m.; the men’s 200-meter freestyle on July 28 at 4 a.m.

The men’s 1500-meter freestyle will be on Aug. 3 at 4 a.m. and and the open-water 10K race on Aug. 9 at 2:30 a.m.; The Men’s 4X200 freestyle meter relay will be on July 30 at 4 a.m.; the men’s 400-meter freestyle will be on July 27 at 4 a.m.
