Manchester United XI vs Liverpool – Predicted lineup and team news
Manchester United make the trip to Liverpool on Sunday looking to avoid their worst run of results in 63 years.
Ruben Amorim’s team have lost three consecutive league games and the Red Devils last lost four in a row in 1961.
Defeat to Newcastle last time out left United 14th in the Premier League table and just seven points clear of the relegation places. Such is their predicament, Amorim admitted his side can not rule out of being dragged into the fight for survival.
In their first fixture of the new year, United face a huge task. Liverpool comfortably lead the Premier League table and can extend their lead to eight points, with a game in hand, with victory at Anfield. The Merseysiders have had the better of this fixture in recent years. United have not won at Liverpool since 2016, while the Red Devils have scored just one goal on their last eight visits.

Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Marcus Rashford will not be involved at Anfield due to illness. The recently exiled forward returned to the squad against Newcastle as an unused substitute but will play no part on Sunday. His absence is a big blow with Rashford having only scored more career goals against Leicester (8) than Liverpool (7).
There’s better news in midfielder, where Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte return from suspension. Fernandes was sent off during the defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day, while Ugarte collected his fifth booking of the campaign.
Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount remain sidelined for the Red Devils.
