Manchester United Women have triggered the one-year option on forward Nikita Parris’ deal.

The women’s team had a complex start to the summer with news that veterans Katie Zelem and Mary Earps would be departing the side.

In addition, there were worrying signs that Ineos were not focusing much on the team, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe admitted that the women’s team was not as big a focus as the male team right now.

Nonetheless, the deals for Dominique Janssen, Elisabeth Terland and the permanent signing of Melvine Malard have quelled these fears somewhat.

The club’s official website has now confirmed that they have “triggered a one-year option on Nikita Parris’s contract, which will keep the forward at the club until the end of the 2024/25 season.”

There had been doubts over Parris’ future at United as she was linked with a lucrative move to the NWSL in the United States of America last season.

In spite of the interest, she decided to remain in Manchester to help United win the FA Cup, which they did with an impressive 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in May.

Parris enjoyed a very successful season on a personal front last season as she was the team’s top scorer with 16 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.

The form of the England international was vital in helping the club absorb the seismic impact of losing Alessia Russo to Arsenal last summer.

The 30-year-old will hope to build on the previous campaign and help her side qualify for the Champions League again and perhaps deliver a second trophy in successive years.

Parris joined the club from Arsenal in the summer of 2022 and has played 57 times for the Red Devils, scoring 25 goals in total.

The England international has enjoyed a successful career up to this point, winning the Champions League with Olympique Lyonnais in 2020 and Euro 2022 with England.
