Barcelona have looked rejuvenated after the Christmas break and look to be back to their best on the field.

The key to finding their form back, thus, lay in providing players adequate rest and it is imperative that the squad has sufficient depth heading into the second half of the season.

One position that has worried the club on that front is the left wing, especially given Ansu Fati’s poor form, and the club have thus shown interest in Marcus Rashford who appears set to leave Manchester United.

Critical weeks coming

As relayed by SPORT in a recent report, Rashford prefers a move to Barcelona over the other options on his table and the club too see him to be a quality option who can play not only as a left-winger but a striker.

However, the Catalans have not yet made a final decision over his incorporation as they must first clear space on the wage bill to enable a new signing. They require time to manifest a departure that is essential before making a recruitment.

Having recently returned to the 1:1 rule, Barcelona first need a player to leave if Rashford is to arrive on loan for six months. Ansu Fati and Eric Garcia are some of the players with options to leave but nothing is concrete at the moment.

While Barcelona need time to clear space on the financial front, the Englishman himself is in a hurry to settle his future fast as his situation at Old Trafford has grown unsustainable.

The likes of AS Monaco, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan have all expressed interest and can accommodate him immediately and a potential move to Barcelona, thus, solely depends on his patience and desire to don the Blaugrana colours.

Hansi Flick has made it clear that he is happy with the current squad but would welcome the arrival should it manifest. After all, he admires Rashford’s profile and sees it to be a good fit.

Should a move work out, Rashford would arrive on loan for six months with a possible option to buy, although the 27-year-old England star would have to reduce his €12 million per season wages as Barcelona would not be in a position to meet that figure.
