Manchester United vs Brighton LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today
Manchester United slipped to their third defeat of the Premier League season as an impressive Brighton & Hove Albion left Old Trafford with a 3-1 victory on Saturday.
Despite making a bright start, United fell behind in the 20th minute when Danny Welbeck slotted home against his former club when left unmarked in the penalty area.
United responded well and thought they had levelled just before the break through big-money signing Rasmus Hojlund, on his full debut, but the ball was adjudged to be out of play when Marcus Rashford pulled the ball back to the Dane.
Brighton fully capitalised on that VAR reprieve, however, as fine goals from Pascal Gross early in the second half and a Joao Pedro strike brought groans of dismay all around Old Trafford.
Substitute Hannibal Mejbri did get one back for the hosts with 18 minutes left but Brighton held on with ease to move up to third in the standings on 12 points from five matches. United dropped to 12th on six points.

Brilliant Brighton secured a famous 3-1 win at Manchester United as things went from bad to worse for Erik ten Hag’s side after a challenge-filled fortnight.
Jadon Sancho has been banished from the first-team squad and Antony given a leave of absence following assault allegations against him which the player denies since the galling, last-gasp loss at Arsenal.
Brighton heaped further misery on United as attention returned to on-field matters on Saturday afternoon, with Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro scoring before Hannibal Mejbri’s consolation effort.

Defensive issues
14:49 , Jonathan Gorrie
United’s defensive frailties in the dying embers of matches cost them last season, and has continued to do so again this year. United have conceded 28% of all goals in the final 15 minutes of matches since the start of last season, having conceded 3 goals in 4 Premier League matches after the 75 minute mark already this season and 11 times last season in the same period. A reminder Brighton have scored more goals (3) than anyone else in the final 15 minutes of games.
Of the 50 goals United have conceded in that time, 58% have come in the second half of matches, and United will be only too aware that 75% of Brighton’s goals this year coming in the second half this year.

Maguire confident chances will come
13:46 , Matt Verri
Harry Maguire has opened up on his failed summer transfer to West Ham as he expressed confidence over breaking into the Manchester United team.
The oft-maligned England stalwart was widely expected to depart Old Trafford after four years during the summer window, having found regular starts hard to come by last season and been stripped of the captaincy by manager Erik ten Hag, who instead handed the armband to Bruno Fernandes.
West Ham were most keen on a deal for Maguire, seeing both loan and permanent bids rejected by United before finally agreeing a fee worth around £30million. The move was never completed however, with reports that the centre-back could not agree terms with United on a suitable pay-off.
“We just didn’t come to an agreement [to leave the club] and they were happy for me to stay and I was happy to fight for my place,” Maguire said.
The defender also seemed confident that he would now get a sustained run of first-team games at injury-hit United, who have Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup commitments all on the agenda over the coming weeks.
“Listen, at club football, I want to play games, I want to play football,” he said. “The first four weeks were hard because it was one game a week and the manager didn’t select me but we have lots of games coming up now and I am sure I will play lots of games.”

If Brighton’s games are anything to go by so far this season, we’re in for some fun this afternoon!
The Seagulls have two 4-1 wins a 3-1 victory to their name already, while West Ham picked up a 3-1 win themselves over Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Goals guaranteed? Let’s hope so.
Sancho exiled from first-team squad
13:22 , Matt Verri
Manchester United have exiled Jadon Sancho from first-team training after his public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.
The winger, 23, was accused of lacking effort in training by Ten Hag after the recent defeat at Arsenal before launching an impromptu rebuttal of the Red Devils boss on social media.
United have confirmed disciplinary action against Sancho, during which time he will work away from the squad.
A statement read: “Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training programme away from the first-team group, pending resolution of a squad discipline issue.”
Sancho is currently at the club’s training ground watching the U18 side.

Ten Hag backs Maguire
13:13 , Matt Verri
Erik ten Hag has insisted that Harry Maguire does not deserve the attacks coming his way, despite dropping the defender and stripping him on the Manchester United captaincy.
The England international was the subject of criticism and more from all corners after his recent appearances for the Three Lions, following a long run out of the United team and a spell of differing form.
However, Ten Hag believes there is still “a lot to come” from Maguire, who he has described as a “great player”.
“I have said many times, it’s disrespectful, he doesn’t deserve it,” the United boss told reporters. “He’s a great player, he gives great performances.
“It is crazy but it’s how it works. Harry has to block this by his performances.”

Manchester United are in all sorts of trouble both on the pitch and behind the scenes, while Brighton are flying high and scoring goals for fun.
The Seagulls won this exact fixture last season and have triumphed in the last three league meetings with United, scoring six goals in the process. A fourth win seems likely.
Brighton to win, 2-0.
