Manchester United ‘strongly interested’ in PSG left-back
Manchester United are ‘strongly interested’ in signing Nuno Mendes from Paris Saint-Germain as the club look to land a new left-back.
Ruben Amorim has made the signing of a left-back his first focus as manager with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia consistently unavailable over the last 18 months.
United have shortlisted several options ahead of the upcoming transfer windows. Among the names under consideration are Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies, who is out of contract in the summer, AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez, and PSG’s Nuno Mendes.
The French champions are keen to tie Mendes down to a new contract, with his current deal set to enter its final 12 months in the summer window.
However, Sky Germany are reporting that the 22-year-old currently has no plans to sign an extension. There is interest in the Portugal international from ‘many top suitors’ and Mendes will assess his options before committing to a new contract.
The full-back shares the same agency as Manchester United manager Amorim and the Red Devils are ‘aware’ of the player’s situation at the Parc des Princes.
Mendes has made 98 appearances for the Ligue 1 since his arrival at the club from Sporting Lisbon. He was included in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in 2021/22 and 2022/23 and was named as the division’s Young Player of the Year in the latter of those campaigns.
At international level, he has won 33 caps for Portugal, who he represents alongside Manchester United duo Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes.
