Manchester United’s loanee goalkeeper Radek Vitek’s cruciate injury is said to be stable.

The Czech goalkeeper is highly rated around Carrington and was a major reason behind the club’s Youth Cup win in 2022 alongside current first team stars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

Vitek went out on loan last season to Accrington Stanley and often impressed between the sticks in League Two.

He got a chance to impress in United’s first game of pre-season against Rosenborg BK and didn’t let anyone down with a series of fine saves to deny the dominant Norwegians.

It was then decided that Vitek would go out on loan and he joined Austrian Bundesliga side FC Blau-Weiß Linz. He has so far distinguished himself once more with two clean sheets in three matches.

The 20 year old received terrible news however when he tore his cruciate and medial ligaments in the warm-up of his latest game and it was announced he would be out of action for several weeks.

Nonetheless, there has been a positive update as Sport Witness report that “a source has [said] that Radek Vítek has only a relatively small tear, his knee-joint is ‘stable’, and that’s why the Manchester United player is expected back within weeks.”

“Of course, the very mention of a cruciate ligament injury is cause for alarm in football. However, the optimistic outlook from the Austrian [club] is built on good foundations.”

Anterior cruciate ligament injuries or ACLs as they are commonly known, are a dreaded word in football and can easily see a player out of action for nine months.

Current United coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will know all about the dangers of these types of injuries as his move to Old Trafford was originally postponed in 2000 as he ruptured the ACL in his knee days before his move to United was to take place.

Luckily though, it appears that Vitek’s injury is nowhere near as serious as these and he will hopefully be back before Christmas or even earlier.

The 20 year old will aim to build on a fine start to life in Austria and give Erik ten Hag even more to think about as he will certainly be dreaming of eventually taking the number one jersey at Old Trafford in the future.
