Manchester United have reportedly missed out on the signing of exciting prospect Rory Finneran to Newcastle United.

The 16 year old has made an impressive start to life at senior football making his debut at only 15 years old and became Blackburn Rovers’ youngest ever debutant.

He has made seven appearances in Premier League 2 and made his senior bow in the FA Cup.

The Red Devils have always been a club on the lookout for top young talent and this has only intensified since Ineos became part owners of the club.

The signings of James Overy, Silva Mexes Tyler-Earnshaw and the soon-to-be announced capture of former Arsenal talent Chido Obi-Martin are testament to that.

However, according to HITC, “Newcastle United have sealed the signing of Irish starlet Rory Finneran.”

The outlet continues that their “sources have confirmed that Premier League duo Liverpool and Manchester United also held talks with Finneran.”

Nonetheless the young Irishman choose Tyneside as he was keen “to join the long-term project at St James’ Park.”

The young midfielder was held in extremely high regard at Blackburn and he has already made progress at international level, representing Ireland’s under 17 side twice.

The Irishman is a defensive midfielder, “but he is also capable of playing at various other positions” such as centre-back, central midfield, right back and centre forward.

His versatility is seen as a huge strength of his game and he has been described as “rarely making any mistakes in his passing, his timing on the tackle is also almost perfect. He has great vision and is comfortable playing long and short passes.”

United will be disappointed on missing out on a young British based talent but it is impossible to capture every exciting young player.

With footballers like Harry Amass, Shea Lacey and Ethan Wheatley on the books, there is much to be excited about in the coming years in United’s youth teams.
